Backflow Prevention

Unfortunately, MPTA does not offer this training directly, however, it is offered by WSP Environmental Training Centre (formally Opus). This training can lead to an Approved Backflow Technician (ABT) certification.

The course covers two Unit Standards:

#23848 (Describe suitability, installation, and testing of water supply backflow prevention devices, and fault identification) and
#23847 (Prepare to test, and inspect and test, water supply backflow prevention devices).

These unit standards are also pre-requisites for the Backflow Survey qualification (unit standard 2150).

Note: This training does not enable you to install backflow devices, however, on completion of the two unit standards 23848 and 23847 you will be able to apply to your local Regional Council for an Approved Backflow Technician (ABT) Certification which will need to be renewed every three years.
